| Aigues-Mortes was founded in 102 BC. This town was the starting point of the seventh and eighth crusades. The Constance Tower with its 6 meters thick walls was completed in 1248 as part of a castle built during Louis IX's reign. The tower was used to imprison Huguenots who refused to convert to Catholicism. |
